For this project, I was challenged to create a poster for a film festival, that also folded into a catalog, of a randomly chosen film movement. I got assigned French Impressionism which is an obscure film movement taking place from approximately 1918-1929. This film movement is characterized by its experimental camera work, angles, lighting, and topics that often focused on taboo subjects. The experimental nature of this movement came as one of the effects of World War I when American films began to gain popularity and outshined French films. The French decided to take a new approach, and focused on ways to display the inner thoughts of characters, and also storytelling partially through their psyche. I aimed to portray the confusion and inner thoughts with a texturized background with a lot of movement. Through this texture and movement, several images emerge adding to the overall chaos. For the typography, I chose a grainy distressed typeface and treated it to mimic some of the background texture for my word mark.
